When it comes to dog care, the first and most important thing is chosing the right dog for you and your lifestyle.  Do your research and make sure it’s a good fit, this way you know that the dog you welcome into your life will get the best love, attention and care it deserves.

There are many things that come along with being a dog owner, here are just a few dog care tips  that will give your dog a long, happy and healthy life:

1. Choosing the right dog food – It depends on the breed, size and age of your dog.  It’s always a good idea to talk with your vet. to make sure you are getting the most nutritious food for your dog.  You can also do some research and learn how to read the labels on the dog food and that way you’ll know what to look out for.

2. Grooming needs -  All poodles don’t require the same grooming routine.  It depends on the size and coat of the dog.  It’s important to brush them regularly since they don’t shed, the hair that does come out stays intertwined with it’s coat.  If you don’t brush it out regularly, they can become a matted mess.  Keeping up with trimming their nails and cleaning their teeth and ears is just as important as everything else.

3. Exercise – All dogs need some kind of activity and exercise in their lives just like we do.   Walking your dog regularly is beneficial for the both of you so that’s something to keep up on.  As far as an exercise routine goes, there are many different kinds of poodles big and small… do some research or consult your vet and make sure they are getting all the exercise they need.

4. Regular vet check-ups -  Taking your dog in on a regular basis is highly recommened by all vets.  It can prolong your dogs life and keep them healthy.  They can’t tell us if something is wrong so you won’t know until you take them in.  It will give you peace of mind.  Regular vet visits can become expensive so Pet Health Insurance is something to look into.
