There are many myths flying around out there about giving your Poodle a bone. The truth is, there are good bones and bad bones. The bad bones you DO NOT want to give your Poodles are the cooked or dried bones with out any meat on them. They tend to be very brittle and can break and splinter off causing a whole world of problems. The raw bare bones are also not such a good idea especially for puppies since their teeth aren’t strong enough yet and could break. These ones don’t have any meat on them and your dog chewing on these could possibly break their teeth. The best bones to give your dog are raw bones with lots of meat on them. They are good for a few reasons, they help your dog build strength in the jaw and strong teeth, they help clean plaque and tartar and the meat gives them some nutritional benefits as well.

I would recommend taking the bone away from your dog shortly after they chew off all the meat. It’s also never really a good idea to leave a bone with your dogs when you are not around, if they swallowed a big chunk of it they could choke and no one would be around to help them. Nylon bones are another good alternative for your dogs. There are always options!

When it comes to dog care, the first and most important thing is chosing the right dog for you and your lifestyle. Do your research and make sure it’s a good fit, this way you know that the dog you welcome into your life will get the best love, attention and care it deserves.

There are many things that come along with being a dog owner, here are just a few dog care tips that will give your dog a long, happy and healthy life:

1. Choosing the right dog food – It depends on the breed, size and age of your dog. It’s always a good idea to talk with your vet. to make sure you are getting the most nutritious food for your dog. You can also do some research and learn how to read the labels on the dog food and that way you’ll know what to look out for.

2. Grooming needs - All poodles don’t require the same grooming routine. It depends on the size and coat of the dog. It’s important to brush them regularly since they don’t shed, the hair that does come out stays intertwined with it’s coat. If you don’t brush it out regularly, they can become a matted mess. Keeping up with trimming their nails and cleaning their teeth and ears is just as important as everything else.

3. Exercise – All dogs need some kind of activity and exercise in their lives just like we do. Walking your dog regularly is beneficial for the both of you so that’s something to keep up on. As far as an exercise routine goes, there are many different kinds of poodles big and small… do some research or consult your vet and make sure they are getting all the exercise they need.

4. Regular vet check-ups - Taking your dog in on a regular basis is highly recommened by all vets. It can prolong your dogs life and keep them healthy. They can’t tell us if something is wrong so you won’t know until you take them in. It will give you peace of mind. Regular vet visits can become expensive so Pet Health Insurance is something to look into.
